I hate that I am about to say this, but I think Dianne Feinstein is right on the money. A report on anti-gang strategy in the United States was released, which makes the ludicrous proposition that prosecuting gang violence makes it worse. Instead, the report suggests that "intervention" policies be put in place. Dianne Feinstein's spokesman points out the comprehensive approach the Senator, in association with Orin Hatch, is proposing: a bill which would step up enforcement while providing hundreds of millions of dollars towards gang prevention and intervention programs. I'm not sure why it's so difficult to see that there needs to be a comprehensive approach to the problem, but the writers of the report seem to think that any enforcement action is harmful.
The true shame, however, is that Feinstein, Hatch, and the rest of the anti-war crowd are too focused on futile idiotic political statements to actually try to get legislation passed which would have bipartisan support and would actually help.
