Feeding the Hungry

There's no reason that the developed world can't feed the world's hungry. With the United Nations worrying about being able to continue their programs, the $600 million a year the World Food Program pays out is a pittance when compared to the amount of money the United States alone pays to farm subsidies - price supports which interfere with the ability of the Third World to make a living off of agriculture. Elimination of these subsidies, which nearly universally go towards large corporations and not small, family farms, will enable Third World farmers to make a more livable wage and increase food production at the point of need. In addition, the billions the United States spends on farm subsidies could instead be used to feed the hungry, both here in the United States and abroad, particularly in Africa, Eastern Europe, and India.
