The Democrats must have done some focus groups and found that the term "new direction in Iraq" had polled well with the American people because you hear nearly every Democrat say it nearly every time they talk about Iraq. For example, Nancy Pelosi refers to Bush's decision to withdraw the excess troops from the surge ahead of schedule "...an insult to the intelligence of the American people that that is a new direction in Iraq."
They might want to readdress their focus groups because as the military situation improves in Iraq, as we are now receiving word from numerous sources including from think tanks and newspapers which have had a Liberal bent, saying you want "a new direction in Iraq" seems counter-productive. As public opinion comes around to realize that things have been going well in Iraq for months now, the repeated refrain of "a new direction" makes it clear that the direction the Democrats want is not one which would lead to victory but one which would lead solely to American withdrawal and defeat.
