- It is devoid of reality, as he has no means to implement it, so making a "what I'd do if I was President now" plan shows a concrete lack of seriousness about his role.
- His plan is based on hope more than anything. Despite what everyone has said (the Generals in Iraq, the Iraq Study Group, the government of Iraq, the neighboring governments, the United Nations, and our allies), he's expecting that just pulling troops out will somehow, magically cause everyone to stop fighting, cause al Qaeda to throw down their weapons, and allow the military and national police forces to become miraculously trained overnight.
- His plan shows the fact that he had no concern for the likely genocide which will result from these actions. Even worse than his stance adamantly opposing any intervention in the Darfur genocide is that he would intentionally withdraw troops despite the fact that he admits that genocide is the likely result.
Obama Outlines His Troop Pullout Plan
ABC NewsDemocratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is calling for the immediate withdrawal of all U.S. combat brigades from Iraq, with the pullout being completed by the end of the year.
"Let me be clear: There is no military solution in Iraq and there never was," Obama said in excerpts of the speech provided to the Associated Press.
"The best way to protect our security and to pressure Iraq's leaders to resolve their civil war is to immediately begin to remove our combat troops. Not in six months or one year now," the Illinois senator says.
Obama's ardent opposition to the war has been a central theme of his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination, and he has used it to distinguish himself from leading rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D.-N.Y. She voted to authorize the use of force in Iraq; Obama was not yet a senator.
